A Viking ship stranded at Gullsaxbro.

The Viking ship, which pays tribute to the Söderala weather vane, has now anchored at the rest area by Gullsaxbro, just before the World Heritage Farm Erik-Anders in Asta.

The Söderala weather vane arrived in the local area by Viking ship towards the end of the Viking Age. It was later placed in Söderala Church. Today, the original is housed at the Swedish History Museum (The World of the Vikings) in Stockholm, while a replica remains in Söderala Church. The weather vane is crafted in the Ringerike style and has been dated to around 1050 by experts in Viking art.

To pay tribute to the Söderala weather vane, a “stranded Viking ship” has now been installed at Gullsaxbro, Siggesta. The aim is to illustrate and bring to life the fascinating cultural heritage of the late Viking Age. The intricately carved dragon head was created by Tomas Andersson of Trönö.
