The island lies about 10 km offshore and is reached by boat taxi. As you arrive at the eastern harbour, the lighthouse is the first thing you’ll see. On the western side you’ll find Toppatall, a beautiful sandy beach with barbecue areas and jetties—a popular spot among boaters.
We spotted deer, hares, seals, sea eagles, great grey shrikes, and even moose during the weekend. A wonderfully welcoming and well-organized place!"
– The Örebro family
Storjungfrun offers a rich variety of landscapes—from bare rock and shingle fields to dry, boulder-rich moraine and lush, lime-influenced meadows. For birdwatchers, the smaller islands surrounding Storjungfrun are ideal for spotting migratory and nesting birds.
The island is also rich in cultural heritage. You'll find a chapel from the 1600s, remains of old harbours—one dating back to the 1500s—and Sweden’s last coal-fired lighthouse.
Storjungfrun is a place of magical moments and lasting memories—a peaceful spot to recharge and reconnect. Bring your own food to grill and don’t forget a good breakfast to enjoy on the porch, with the sea as your dining companion.
At Fyrhamnen on the eastern side of the island, you’ll find four cottages, each with six beds and approximately 25 square meters of space. The sauna building has solar-powered lighting and charging. A separate conference building includes a 2-bed room and a dormitory with 10 beds.
On the western side of the island by the beach Toppatall (3 km from Fyrhamnen), there is one cottage of about 40 square meters with eight beds.
All cottages are well-equipped for a comfortable stay.
As a guest, you are responsible for household chores and cleaning.
Söderhamn Municipality works to ensure the archipelago remains accessible, sustainable, and aligned with today’s environmental standards. The cottages are affiliated with the Swedish Tourist Association (STF), and we follow STF’s Sustainability Promise.
